Our Lodge Officers Elks Officers are leaders Leadership is not tangible, it can be hard to describe and usually hard to measure. Leadership can be an inherent trait and can be improved and learned through experience. Leaders must possess the ability to control and direct, have self-confidence, be knowledgable and willing to take the initiative. Most importantly a good leader is loyal, has a sense of responsibility to the people or organization under his or her charge. A good leader understands it is his or her responsibility to train, develop and instill leadership traits of others. Traits of a good leader include the ability to be Just, provide fair Judgment, be Dependable, take Initiative, be Decisive, show Enthusiasm in all endeavors, be Tactful in execution of his or her mission, have strong Bearing, be Unselfish, have the Endurance to complete all goals, have the Knowledge to understand his or her strengths and weaknesses, to be Courageous and Loyal. He or she must be willing to listen to others, set aside personal emotions and prejudices and make decisions for the good of all An Elks Officer is no exception! . An officer of an Elks lodge must have, learn and develop these traits in order for the lodge members to nominate and elect them. A lodge officer understands thier sole purpose is to serve lodge members in creating a an atmosphere of good fellowship and charity. With good officers leading a lodge, it will continue to grow membership, have a proactive role in the community, have good relationships with fellow lodges and organizations so thier lodge can be an assett to thier members, and thier community, the Elks Organization and the United States of America
